The minfos® team are proud to announce we have joined with eRx Script Exchange and MediSecure to make e-script functionality available to minfos® pharmacies across Australia.
We realise the importance of making electronic prescribing available to pharmacies and we have worked extensively with these companies to ensure both systems will function seamlessly with the minfos® software.
The benefits of e-prescribing are enormous. The system is a significant step forward in modernising prescribing which will benefit pharmacists and doctors, as well as patients.
Electronic prescribing will allow for faster dispensing, will cut prescription fraud and reduce reliance on paper scripts, minimising waste.
E-scripts allow the GP to generate an electronic version of the prescription which is linked with a barcode that has been generated by the GP’s software. This means that while the patient still receives a printed hardcopy of the prescription, the data is also sent to the pharmacy’s dispensing system via the internet.
minfos® worked extensively with the Northern Territory’s Top End Division of General Practice (TEDGP) to play a key role in the launch of Australia’s first electronic prescriptions program last year.
Our early involvement in the eHealthNT trial means that we’ve now been testing the technology for more than 12 months and have experience in making e-scripts work so pharmacies can save time and enjoy real benefits.
The new system means information from the script will go directly from a GP’s desktop into the minfos® pharmacy dispensing package. This means it can be automatically downloaded by participating pharmacies, eliminating any ‘transcription errors’ through the pharmacist having to manually key the script into the software.
Essentially this will reduce human error which can occur as a result of the pharmacists’ transcription or because of badly handwritten scripts which are hard to decipher.
Error reduction isn’t the only benefit the system offers to pharmacists. The technology will allow the prescriptions to be transmitted to a secure central server and then picked up by the pharmacist through a secure connection.
Further information will be provided to all minfos® customers prior to the “go-live” date for the e-scripts systems later this year. Pharmacists looking for more information should contact minfos® Support on 1800 657 993.
