From the beginning of August 2008, pharmacies will be able to use the minfos® system to make instant, online PBS claims – and in the process, receive an additional $0.40 and $1.50 PBS incentive payment for using the new online claiming system. According to the Federal Government, the new online claiming system is a key part of reforms to the PBS claiming system, which are designed to:

• Protect consumers from higher out of pocket costs
• Encourage competition between brands of generic medicines, to keep prices down, and
• Continue to improve the accessibility of certain, world-class life-enhancing drugs for patients.

Payment eligibility

PBS Online users will receive the $0.40 PBS Online Incentive Payment for each prescription that is:

• Dispensed on or after 1 August 2008; and
• Processed via the online claiming channel; and
• Paid (not rejected or cancelled).

PBS Online users will receive the $1.50 PBS Online Incentive Payment for each prescription that is:

• Dispensed on or after 1 August 2008;
• For a PBS-listed product marked as “bio-equivalent” in the Schedule of Pharmaceutical Benefits; and
• For a PBS-listed product that does not have any Special Patient Contribution (either a Brand Price Premium, Therapeutic Group Premium, or other) payable by the consumer in addition to the regular consumer co-payment; and
• Paid (not rejected or cancelled).
